Demos and unreleased tracks?

Postby Letdownagain » Sun May 14, 2006 5:53 pm

I just downloaded a cd called "Rarities Of Mode" and I was wondering if the songs are really by Depeche Mode.

Violence
If you want
I feel no guilt
Until you sew the seeds
Transcanadian Track
Return To Oberkorn
Postule (Recoil Demo)
Mother Me

Are these Alan's Demos? It sounds like him singing.

Also I have some demos by Martin, but I'm not sure what's real. They are:

World Full Of Nothing
Told You So
Shake The Disease
Barrel Of A Gun
Lie To Me
Here Is The House
Told You So
Love In Itself
I Love You Love Me Love

I'm really looking to tey to complete my Depeche Mode collection, so any help would be much appriciated. Also, does anyone kown what other songs have demos with Dave?

I purchased the actual CD a few years ago and each song is labled as either Depeche Mode OR "Composition of Sound". This CD does not appear to be a CD-R at all, it LOOKS like an original but the way some people are on computers and with recording equipment, it could be one. But I seriously doubt it. I'll list it exactely as they appear on the back of my CD in my next reply. Tami info@petbedsbytam.com

Ok, Tami again, found my disc and wanted to share with you how they are listed. I checked it over and I really believe it is NOT a CD-R. I do believe it's an original that was released by Mute for promotions only. BUT I COULD be wrong. If anyone on here knows the history behind this disc, please feel free to correct me and share the right information. Thanks, Tami info@petbedsbytam.com

"Violence (construction time again session 4:42)
"If You Want" (some great reward session 4:31)
"I Feel No Guilt" (construction time again session 5:03)
"Until You Saw the Sea " (unknown demo 5:17)
"All by Themselves" (construction time again session 5:19)
"Transanadian track" (1982 demo with unknown origins 2:02)
"Return to Oberkorn" (1982 demo with unknown origins 3:11)
"Postulate" (Recoil demo unreleased 5:19)
"Mother Me" (aka= Monghi) (1987 PUK studio session 3:32)
"Never Turn Your Back on Mother Earth" (Bong Mag-Flexi version 2:48)
"I Love You Love Me Love" (Counterfeit EP session 2:42)
"Down in the Boondocks" (Counterfeit EP session 2:44)
"When I will the new Baby Grow" (French look demo 1979 4:35)
"Dirty Allright Now" (1992 demo 3:27)
"Take a Look at Me Now" (1992 demo 2:51)
"For Joanne" (song for Davids ex wife demo 3:14)
"A Question of Time" (beauty rhythm 7" mix 4:32)
"A Question of Time" (Beauty rhythm 12" mix 6:59)
"A Question of Time" (Johnny Flash NJURAZ mix 5:49)

Now the last 3 are listed on the disc as "A ? of Lust" but they are most definately NOT, all 3 ARE "A ? of Time", I know the difference. The total running time is 79 minutes. Some of them do sound like Alan but I'm not positive. But I do know this......I LOVE THE CD COVER!!!!!!!! ohhhh, they look sooooooooooooo awesomely HOT. Especially Alan :D :icon_wink :D :icon_wink

I'm not a collector of unauthorised releases (it's hard enough keeping up with official stuff), so I don't know much about Depeche bootlegs, but I'd be very surprised if this is anything other than a bootleg.

As I understand it, no Depeche Mode demos have ever been officially released and the tracklisting you have given us llooks very bootleg like to me.

The fact that it isn't a CD-R doesn't mean anything. Bootlegs are often produced on proper discs.

Sorry, I meant to say that I'd be very surprised if Mute would have released something like this for promotional purposes and if they had, I'd expect them to get the titles correct.

After listening to this disc again and very carefully, some of the songs don't sound like Dave, Martin, OR Alan. So yes, I have to agree that they are one of those "DM wanna bees". The person who sold me the disc is the one who said it was released by Mute so you do have a point about the incorrect title listings. And he also told me it was a bootleg. I can honestly say, this is NOT one of my favorite discs. There are only 4 songs on it that I can honestly say I will play them again.

As far as my "Composition of Sound" disc goes, that came from the same person and most of them are demos with dates listed next to the song titles.

I would like to see DM release a demo disc for general sale including them just goofing around in the back ground. That would be neat. I'd buy it :D. Tam

Highly doubt you'd ever see something like a record of demos. Not necessarily because there isn't a demand for it, but because it doesn't make good aesthetic sense to release half-finished material.

Well, lots of bands do it. I don't think we'll see Depeche release demos because I believe that Martin Gore has said that he doesn't want them released. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, the most common time for them to be released is when albums are re-issued, where they are bonus tracks. The fact that none are included on the remasters suggests that there are no plans to release demos at the moment.

I wouldn't hold your breath.
