Is Depeche Mode still popular?

On their last tour documentary DM were saying how it's strange that theyre hotter now than in their youthful years. Well that's not true in the states. The Anel album and tour didn't sell as hot as Exciter in The US.

So now we've got SOTU. Not quite a traditional DM album with not many distinct hits. So far WIkipedia says it sold 80,000 in it's first week. Not so huge for a legendary groundbaking band. SO I want to know are they still hot in EUrope or are they waning in popularity like here in The States?

I believe i read DM had a 4th week Number 1 in Europe.

I think things work a little differently for depeche mode. They have a strong following, very loyal, the concerts sell out immediately. Mode has staying power, i think every album they put out is pretty much garanteed to sell between 2-3 million worldwide atleast.

Yes i think they're hot-hotter than ever .
Here in Europe they sold out the stadiums in hours and i was witness of that because i bought tickets for several shows and i saw how, for example the tickets for Vienna show in december desapeared within minutes. I think the frenzy with the tickets with this tour has something to do with Depeche being soooooooo hot on stage. So probabl live Depeche are now hotter than before.
I don't know about the number of records soldout but i think for them that was never an issue. I think they had two very commercial albums and the rest are more alternative.
And as for Depeche not being hot in America, is probably because there are a lot of Hotties there with 'big eyes' who mistake making music with making pornografy.

I don't think this is the issue here.
Let's face it, the band is becoming more mature as the years go by, and so do the fans. What do we oldsters like? To shed a few tears listening to our favorite song on the way to work? This sort of worshiping does not require big fuss and gossip on E-news.
I say- leave the "heat estimation" to the teenage idols

Yes they were for 4 week the No. 1 Album here in Germany. And most of the concerts are sold out. In Europe and especially in Germany they are hotter than ever! Everytime a single comes out it will be a No. Hit. Their albums are always on No. 1 too and of course their Live DVDs...

As I were in the States (in some kind of Merchandising Store) I've asked the salesgirl if they have anything from Depeche Mode (and she was older then me ), but she did not know who they are...even as I tried to explain, she just said, "oh you mean U2"...and you know what THAT means

so, I think they are hot, they are looking hot, the are singing hot, they are moving hot etc

Hm, yes you are right -they are not completely soldout but few seats on the very rear don't count .
The struggle was for the front area because everybody wanted to be close to the HOT ones .

Yes it's a cure in The US. Many people don't know who they are. Especially in The South and in th ghettos.

I get the impression that DM is still very popular here in Sweden at least.

Now just hold on a damn minute! Battery I think you need to clarify "The South" we all know who dem DEPECHE MODE people is,and are devoted fans..So don't be haten "DEPECHE MODE ALL THE WAY" yeee hah...
