Default Complaints and Concerns about Concert Tickets and their prices

Ever since Ticketmaster bought Ticketsnow earlier this year, it has caused major problems among fans when tickets went on sale for various major events including concerts and sporting events like UFC cards. Basically, TicketsNow, a subsidiary/partner company of Ticketmaster, buys up most of the tickets within seconds of going on sale (even during pre-sales) and then sells them well above face value. I'm worried that this will happen when tickets for the American Tour of the Universe go on sale. I'm not sure that I have it budgeted to pay a huge markup on the otherwise reasonably priced DM tickets if TicketsNow snatches up most of the tickets immediately. Has anyone here in the US used Ticketmaster to buy tickets recently to concerts of a similar profile level to DM? If so, was it on the more normal side of ticket buying or did Ticketsnow snatch almost everything up?

i've used ticketmaster to purchase red hot chili peppers tickets at the american airlines center in dallas, tx, which would be the obvious choice venue for dm to play there. given, this was about a year ago, so i'm not too sure if it would be any different now, but i was on one computer and my parents on another the minute tickets went on sale and we managed to get claim on seats in the second row pretty close to the stage

go figure my father tries to put in his social security number the entire minute you have to claim the tickets, instead of the credit card number, and we lose the seats

regardless, i don't think ticketmaster has been that bad as of late, i've used it multiple times with my best friend, and we've not had any problems, though i can imagine how things might be radically different

i don't care what seats i get, anyways, i just want to be there, honestly

Ticketmaster bought TicketsNow this past February, after the period you mention.

An example of what they're pulling from a report about a UFC onsale:

Quote:
--Reader Rob Kurek of Chicago voiced frustration that has been going on all over Chicago as tickets went on sale for UFC. He tried to buy using the pre sale password but all the $50 and $100 tickets were gone, and he wasn't going to spend $200 (cheapest available) for a ticket. All were gone before the public could get them. But Ticketmaster owns a ticket brokering company called TicketsNow, that has what were the $50 tickets for $193 and is selling the best seats for $2,291.

In these tough economic times, there is no room for price gouging. I will not spend more than face value for any seat. I suppose $200 per ticket for floor center is fair. Not $3k.
If this ticketsnow snaps up all the good seats,I would have to pass as much as it would hurt.

I posted this elsewhere, but NIN did a special fan presale. You were only allowed to buy two tickets at a time, and they will not ship them to you. You have to pick them up at will call with your ID and credit card in hand on the day of the show. The bonus is that those tickets that they set aside were the pit and premium seats. Eliminates the online scalper issues-at least for the good tickets. Anyway, by getting them right when they went on the presale, I ended up with 4th row center.
