Fifth listening...
I still think that it's quite a weak album. Not exactly bad, simply quite flat. Flatter than the low key moments of "Exciter".
Anyway, "In Chains" and "Little Soul" are starting to grow on me. And I like Martin in Jezebel (although the instrumentation often sounds like a basic backing track from a cheap Casio keyboard of the '80s). "Wrong" is great, but we all already knew that.
I confirm my impressions on the sound quality: the 320 Kbps leak sucks a lot, very muddled and lacking in clarity and punch. It's not simply a matter of recording level: there is lack of detail and resolution in all of the tracks.
So, I can say quite confidently that the final release will be MUCH better, because it's impossible that a major band like DM could have such a low quality sound. If it weren't so, I'd personally organize a trip to London to give a hard beating to Ben Hillier... :-)
