Being a bit of a fan of 80's pop and MOS Chillout CD's I bought this without really looking at it.
It wasn't until I got it home and read the artists that I notice that there was no DM ![]() Two from Yazoo and one from Erasure and then all the usual suspects. In the inlay there is a passage that reads; 'Groups with striking music and looks to match like Human League, Heaven 17, Classix Nouveaux and OMD gained a cult following for their take on the signature electronic sound......while others like Yazoo or New Order, were formed with the synth and drum machine at the very heart of everything that they made right away.' I don't know whether I should be pleased that they have not been included as they have lasted the distance and they are no longer seen as an 80's band, or disappointed that they have not been recognised for the major impact that they had on Electronic music in the 80's

I noticed that DM were not on that album and although they are the only band that have really lasted the distance and so are not just an 80's band, I think that they should have had something on the album or if not, at least a mention!! Synth Britannia on the BBC did a big piece on them and so I don't see any reason why they are not on this album. Having said that I'm actually not surprised that they were left out, as we have said many times before how underrated they are, although time and time again many artists/bands have said how much DM have influenced them.

It gets worse - the songs are all standard versions, thought with it being MOS they would be remixed.
![]() Now thoroughly glad DM had absolutely nothing to do with this album.

I've just looked at the tracklist and can see many of the Friend's Reunited tracks. I could say more, but I'll just say that there has recently been some UK released 12" single (various artists) 3/5CD compilations that haven't featured the best 12" single mixes in general. In other words, it's no surprise.
It is a shame because I had heard that the Ministry Of Sound had gained the rights to the Dare album, and would have hoped for a remix album from songs by artists such as DM, The Human League, Yazoo, Eurythmics, Blancmange, New Order, OMD etc.

My guess is that MUTE has a policy to be very cautious about licensing DM songs to appear on compilations.
If you want to hear DM you have to buy a DM album! ![]() Other artists are much more "flexible" about having their music included on compilations. Especially if they are on a major record label. But it could also be that most DM singles aren't very dancefloor-friendly (unless you have a room full of DM fans)

I must admit though, I was unaware that the Human League had never stopped performing, I remember that they did do an 80's tour with some other bands. I saw the Human League in the early 80's, front row, great, I was a fan, but sort of drifted away from them. I still have a few of my favourite songs of theirs on my ipod. I have seen the Ministry Of Sound Anthems-Electronic 80's advertised, but haven't actually looked at it yet.

I'll have to check on that! Thanks for reminding me of Blancmonge! Blind Vision.
If DM are not on there, I would think maybe either they don't want to or ..... |
