SOTU. The songs are possibly the best DM have done in a long time, but have been quite ruthlessly destroyed in production.
DM - please dont use Ben Hillier again. What posessed you? I mean "Come back" goes from lovely sounding Studio version to Distorted beyond belief version. Sure Wrong sounds OK, Peace is very retro, but the rest? Why? Wish they'd have let me mix FT. I'd have made a much better job of it than the fuzzy production of SOTU. Another song ruined by BH. Listen to the bass synths on the acapella. I'd have used those as the main verse riff, not the distorted rubbish that is there now... arrrrggghhhh its horrible. Deciding not to include Ghost & Light on the album was also a big mistake. A crime of an album.

If this ever happened, it would only be because of damage to the CD, and I would replace the album ASAP !
![]() I couldn't conceive the smallest hint of a speck of an idea of my DM collection without every album - how on earth would I do my " special DM " days, when I play them all through in chrono order ? ![]() AND - they fit nicely and snugly, with my singles and Dave's solo stuff - all on one shelf ... now I don't want a gap do I ?

PLAYING THE ANGEL! Half the album is good...But the half that's bad is REALLY bad.

Love Playing the Angel.
I'd probably say SOFAD Live. I only bought it because I didn't have it, but I've only listened once or twice and that was painful. If it has to be a studio album I'd say A Broken Frame.

What's so painful about it? Perhaps the track order is, but the songs themselves are found on Devotional as well as various In Your Room releases. Maybe it's redundant, especially if you dislike the Devotional tour...

Dave just didn't sound himself (because of the time) and the backup singers just ruin everything! They overpowered everything and seemed to take over.

True; on several bootlegs, Dave sounds absolutely awful. And I dislike the backup singers on the Devotional/Exotic/Exciter tours as well. Judas especially just doesn't sound right.

I just got in a REAL CD format: some great rewards, music for the masses, broken frame, black celebration DDE, and Ultra DDE....It's hard to tell, because on every album you find good and bad songs. Just like in real life, you gotta take the good with the bad.

I wouldn't get rid of any of them at all.
